HISET Teacher - Language Arts/Social Studies

Salary Grade: Contractor (non-benefit eligible)
Pay: $45 per hour; 8 hrs per week
Schedule: Monday – Thursday (September – June)
Location: Jamaica Plain, MA
Job Summary:
The EYOC instructor will create standards-based curriculum and provide instruction in the areas of English Language Arts and Social Studies to prepare students to earn the HiSET. (https://hiset.ets.org/tcs-ae/about/content).
EYOC instructors support the academic advancement and growth of students through small group instruction, personalized coaching, and relationship building. Our instructors work with learners to explore student’s skills and interests and devise an integrated curriculum for students to achieve foundational literacy, complete the HiSET, and successfully transition into post-secondary education, industry training and living wage careers.
Each year EYOC serves 30 Black and Latino youth from Greater Boston who are off-track from school completion. EYOC instructors work collaboratively with the EYOC Director and Student Support Specialist to create a safe and responsive environment for all youth to learn.
All EYOC staff are responsible for creating a trauma-sensitive space for learning to foster students' resilience and success within our learning community.
Minimum qualifications:
Required: Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required.
Required: Minimum < 2+ years teaching high school, adult education (GED/HiSET), or high education academia.
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field. Masters preferred.
Experience creating English Language Arts & Social Studies academic curriculum for grades 7-12 or adult education curriculum aligned to ABE/ASE levels in the College & Career Readiness Standards (Common Core).
Experience or comfort teaching students with varying academic abilities in a multilevel classroom.
Experience teaching Black and Latino youth and having a solid understanding of the nuances Urban Education and supporting non-traditional learners.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Comfort using digital resources including Google Applications, Powerpoint, and Outlook.
Preferred:
Experience teaching students at multiple grade levels simultaneously.
Experience teaching and/or conducting informal assessment of students with learning differences and hidden disabilities.
Experience with Zoom or Google Meets for remote instruction.

Specific Responsibilities are as follows:
Provide face-to-face instruction and create standards-based curriculum for instruction aligned to OCTAE’s College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS-AE).
Create a syllabus and outline lessons, skills targets, and assessments to be implemented with students
Conduct academic goal setting with students and facilitate ongoing review of educational progress leading to HiSET testing.
Submit daily attendance on Google Sheets and report patterns of absenteeism to the Education Director. Initiate follow-up communication with students about missed classwork through phone calls, email, Google Classroom and 1:1 student meetings.
Monitor student’s performance and document academic progress through progress notes and quarterly reporting for student progress meetings.
Implement trauma-informed behavior management techniques in the class setting.
Assist in the evaluation of student’s personal and career goals through information sharing on their academic progress, case management concerns, and curriculum-based activities for career exploration.
Maintain professional conduct including adherence to professional boundaries, punctuality, and having a high-level of respect for the student body and their lived experiences.
